Avoid Fraudulent in the Jewelry Industry

Unfortunately the fact of the matter is that there are jewelers and dealers out there that engage in fraudulent practices when they are doing businesses from time to time. How can you spot them and just what are these fraudulent practices? The truth of the matter is that they are difficult to spot unless you are self trained to.

Most are masterful con artists who pick their targets carefully and will look you in the eye while they share a glass of wine and a joke with you, all the while plotting to to screw you over.

Fraudulent practices such as "stone switching" are surprisingly easy to pull of and once it is done, can be easily denied by the jeweler who will claim that it is you who is the con artist just looking for some easy money.

Even the most reputable jeweler can have an employee with a gambling or a drug problem, so it is up to you to cover your butt. Rule number one is that if you have expensive stones on your jewelry have then certified, documented and insured. Never just walk into just any jewelry store and hand expensive jewelry with nice stones in it over to the jeweler and assume that everything is OK.

Find a qualified jeweler and then don't be afraid to discuss the topic of stone switching with them and ask them what safeguards and guarantees they have in place to guarantee the you can't be victimized at their establishment.

A qualified reputable jeweler would be more then glad to discuss the topic and if you have expensive high grade stones in your jewelry would understand your concerns. Trying to save a few bucks by having your high end jewelry worked on by the jeweler at the local back alley pawn shop is the best way to end up becomming the victim of stone switching.

Earrings

When did earrings begin to be worn? Were they worn for body decoration, or other reasons? Some facts, folklore and irreverent comments about earrings:

Some authorities reason that earrings were first worn to help ward off evil spirits. It was thought that these spirits could enter the body through the ears. Ear piercing for the wearing of earrings goes back to evidence in carvings of ancient Persia, long before the existence of rock and roll bands or basketball players, of men wearing earrings.

There are still people that believe as the ancients did that to pierce the ears improves eyesight, especially if a gold earring is worn in one ear and a silver one in the other. Others say to wear earrings of gold with emeralds in them does the trick. It may be a lot less painful and confusing (and less expensive) in the long run to just get a pair of glasses.

There was the thought long ago that wearing jewelry of any type was showing the wearer to be
influenced by demons. Evidently these same folks didn't know about the first bullet point of this
list.

During the days of sailing ships, a sailor would wear an earring to show he had survived a shipwreck, that he had crossed the equator or sailed around the world. Pick the reason you like.
Or maybe they wore them just because they liked them. A good enough reason in itself.

During the Women's Suffrage movement of the early 20th century, the piercing of women's ears was looked upon as barbaric. An alternative method of screw-on earrings was invented as a result. In the 1930's an improvement upon the screw-on type was the clip-on earring. These types of earrings were the style until the 1960's when the barbarity of piercing ears came back into vogue.

There have been times in history where earrings practically disappeared because of hair styles
and clothing fads. The middle of the 19th century was one of these times. It wasn't until Queen
Victoria of England, ever the trend-setter, took to wearing earrings that they came back into
vogue.

The most expensive earrings made to date were made by Harry Winston, 'Jeweler To the Stars' in Beverly Hills, California. In 2006 a pair of Diamond Drop earrings were produced by The House of Winston that had each earring consisting of two pear-shaped diamonds set in a platinum setting. Total weight of the diamonds is 60.1 carats. If you wanted to buy them you'd have to cough up (gasp) $8.5 million. By Alan Beggerow

If you looking for affordable value of earrings, there are many in the market, either jewelry shopping web site or retails jewelry shop. All depend what type of earring you are looking at? pearl earrings, gold, diamond earrings etc.

Choosing Pearl Earrings

Earrings are a popular piece of jewelry and it is essential to choose the right styles for your face shape. Wearing the right earrings will help to flatter and define your features.

To determine your face shape, start by pulling your hair away from your forehead with a hair band, stand in front of a mirror and trace the outline of your face with a soap bar or lipstick onto the mirror.

Check your face shape against those listed below. Each one is outlined with their best suit defining features and avoid example to help you work out which shape you belong to. If you’re having difficulty working out which face shape you have, just ask a friend for some help.

Oval Face
Best Suit: Soft shapes such as pearls, teardrops, ovals and studs work the best. Oval faces are very versatile and can wear pretty much anything. Just experiment with all styles to see which ones you prefer.

Round Face
Best Suit: Long, lean and angular curvy lines to elongate the round face. Drop earrings in oblongs, ovals and dangles work best. Bold angular stud earrings can also look great.
Avoid: Large, chunky earrings. And steer clear of hoops and small studs.

Heart Shaped Face
Best Suit: Earrings that are wider at the bottom than at the top. Go for earrings with soft curves such as tear drops or ovals. Pyramid style earrings can also work well as they are wider at the bottom.
Avoid: Heart shaped earrings and those that come to a point at the bottom.

Square Face
Best Suit: Angular, rounded edges which will soften a square face. Medium to long styles are best and hoops look amazing.
Avoid: Large, angular styles as these can make your face appear wider.

Oblong Face
Best Suit: Statement chandelier styles with lots of volume. Simple studs also work well as they draw the eyes horizontally.
Avoid: Long and angular earrings that mirror your face shape.

Diamond Face
Best Suit: Earrings with more width than length, a combination of straight lines and curves are great. Studs also look good on diamond shape faces as do small drops.
Avoid: Diamond shape earrings and angular squares.

Remember to match the style and colour of your earrings to your outfit and to the occasion. Be comfortable in what you wear and your elegance will shine through. By Anna Lee

Pearl Jewelry

From Audrey Hepburn and the English Crown Jewels to long necklaces done by fashion giant Chanel, there is absolutely no doubt to the timelessness of a great pearl jewelry. Pearls are a wonder of nature, like most jewels are. Born from an irritation in the inner lining of mollusks (oysters and pearl mussels create pearls that are considered valuable); it becomes something beautiful and spectacular.

There are different kinds of pearls , they come in different shapes, sizes and colors. The rounder the pearl is the rarer and much more expensive it tends to be. Pearls are either salt water or fresh water pearls , cultured or natural. The environment of which the pearl is created greatly contributes to how a pearl will turn out.

STORAGE - Pearl jewelry cannot be haphazardly thrown in with the other jewelry in your armoire. Pearls have a softer surface compared to other jewelry. In fact, pearls are located in the lowest rung when it comes to hardness with diamonds being at the top. So, if you throw your pearls with other jewelry that contains sapphires, rubies, emeralds, etc. or even gold links that have sharp edges on them, you are endangering your pearls from getting scratched or damaged.

The best thing to do is to put the pearls in a separate container. If you do not have the luxury, the time or the space to store your jewels separately, then you could get inexpensive felt or velvet pouches that you can buy in craft and fabric stores. Keep your pearls in these pouches so that they do not get scratched by harder gemstones.

CLEANING - There are a lot of jewelry cleaners that are available in the market. DON'T use them with your pearls. Again, as said, pearls have a softer cover in comparison to other gems. Commercial jewelry cleaners can damage the surface of your pearls and cause them to loose their luster. When you need to clean your pearls , the best thing to do is to clean them with a dilute solution of soap and water. This will help remove the dirt and still keep your pearls intact.

For better results, use warm water when cleaning them and soak them for at least 10 minutes. Don't leave them on too long because it can also damage the pearl and make it loose its luster. Another tip that will keep the pearl clean and help it keep its shine longer is to put on your perfume first before putting on the pearl. This way, you do not get any of the oil and the alcohol from the perfume directly on the pearls .

MAKING THEM LAST - Pearls need to be restrung at least every year or when the string they are attached to becomes frayed. Re-stringing pearls help avoid a fiasco of having your pearls rain down all over your floor with you getting on your knees looking for each individual piece. Restringing can be done by a professional; your local jeweler can probably do the job for
you. By Puripong Koomsin

Freshwater Pearl Necklace - Ideal Gift

A freshwater pearl necklace is a beautiful, meaningful, and thoughtful gift that you can give to the most special woman in your life. Whether it’s your wife, mother, or sister, she will surely appreciate having a freshwater pearl necklace from you.

Freshwater pearls have been cultivated, cultured, or found in freshwater as opposed to saltwater pearls which have been harvested from seas and oceans. Freshwater pearls can be naturally processed with or without human intervention.

Without human interference, pearl divers will have to search for mollusks or oysters where a foreign object has incidentally found its way inside and has been encrusted with layers of nacre, the ingredient mainly responsible for the unique luster of pearls.

With human intervention, pearl divers will insert organ tissue material into another mollusk to generate nacre production. They will also carefully monitor all factors that could affect the growth of pearls to ensure that the end product will come out beautiful and evenly shaped.

How to Choose the Perfect Freshwater Pearl Necklace

Source – Freshwater pearls are produced in various parts of the world although the most famous come from Japan and China. The origin of freshwater pearl necklace can readily affect its price so consider purchasing freshwater pearl necklaces from less-known pearl manufacturers if you’re on a budget.

Size – Just like it is with all sorts of jewelry, the larger the size of the gem – or pearl, in this instance – the higher its value. The pearl size greater than 5mm the value is double.

Shape – There are numerous pearls that are irregularly shaped because they have been allowed to grow without any external interference. It’s also more likely for saltwater mollusks to produce evenly shaped pearls than freshwater mollusks. If you’re after perfect and evenly shaped freshwater pearls, consider purchasing freshwater cultivated pearls.

Luster – Observe freshwater pearl necklaces in various lights to effectively compare its luster. Of course, the better the luster of freshwater pearls, the higher its value once more.

Skin – Just like any other gem, you should also consider the quality of the freshwater pearl necklace. Does it have any visible blemishes, scratches, or flaws? Since freshwater pearls are sensitive to damage, you might have a hard time looking for one that’s completely free from blemish.

Color – Lastly, consider the color and make sure that it complements the complexion of the recipient.

Perfect Necklace Size & Style

Necklaces come in many different styles and sizes. One reason for this is because women love versatility. They love different looks for different occasions and even for their different moods. One necklace could never handle every look and every mood a woman has or wants. So how do you go about finding the perfect style and size necklace? You just pick a certain look and a certain mood. Then you find the onethat will match.

Start by looking at what length you want. The most popular length is the 18 inched. But some women like shorter lengths (the 16th inch is still popular) and will even pair a shorter length necklace with a longer one. If you are stuck wondering what length you should buy, you could buy a necklace that has an extension chain. These extension chains allow the woman to set the length according to her own taste and she can change that length each time she wears it, if she wishes.

Now think about what type of chain you might want to buy, you can buy anything from a costume type chain, a nickel free chain, a hypoallergenic chain (yes there is a difference between hypoallergenic and nickel free), a pure gold chain, a gold covered overlay chain, a sterling silver chain to name a few types.

Of course, you can even buy necklaces that are not chains. Some are made from pearls, fake pearls, beads, shells, ribbons, leather and even string. If you are getting confused at what type of necklace you should buy, you haven't heard anything yet. Have you stopped to think about the charm that should be dangling from the necklace?

You can find about any type of charm you want. Some of the most popular ones are: crosses, hearts, flowers, circles, circles within circles, stars, moons, peace signs, bears, cats, angels, unicorns, angels, etc.

Then, of course, you can't forget the beautiful and somewhat expensive gemstones that hang so elegantly from necklaces. There is the universal diamond, the ruby, the topaz, the emerald, the jade, etc. Plus, there are the costume versions of the beautiful gems.

Here are some questions that might help you, if you want to buy a necklace as a gift, first think about the person who you will be receiving the necklace. Do you remember seeing her in necklaces? Can you remember what lengths she generally wears? Does she prefer gold or silver chains or maybe she is a pearl lady. Does she love crosses? Does she collect angels or bears?

Does she have a passion for the night sky? The answers to these questions can lead you on the way toward that perfect necklace. By Jeffrey Meier

Jewelry As What You Wear

Jewelry not only enhances our wardrobe, but it allows us to make a statement to the world of how we would like people to perceive us. Not only that, but wearing jewelry is fun. It makes us feel good about ourselves. For those times when you just don’t know which jewelry to wear or to buy, here are few ways to help you decide.

What Jewelry Should You Wear?

If you can’t decide what jewelry to wear, then you can let the occasion be your guide.

Job Interview

During a job interview, wearing jewelry is optional. If you do wear jewelry, make sure you wear what is appropriate. For example, if you want to make a good impression for a job interview at a bank, then you should be conservative in your dress and selection of jewelry. At work, wear something that is appropriate for your position.

In The Evenings

Dinner parties can be exciting when you get to show off your sparkling jewelry. You’ll get people noticing and perhaps break the ice with people whom you’ve just met. Of course, you should let them make the compliments first, or you might appear to be obnoxious.

Holiday Themes

For festive times, you can wear holiday themed jewelry, such as Christmas or even Halloween. They have the colors, shapes and objects normally associated with the holiday. You shouldn't wear these after the holiday they are about or people might wonder about you.

Getting Married

Wearing bridal jewelry would be appropriate for the day you get married. The wedding band and the wedding ring are partly the responsibility of the groom. However, these days the bride is also involved in the shopping decision. So, if the budget allows it, a one carat diamond ring would be very flattering on you.

Going Back In Time

Wearing antique jewelry could be a way of changing the mood. You might have a piece that is are and valuable. Antique jewelry is distinctive and wearing it might make you feel that you're
living in a previous time. By Wanda Lam

Pearl Jewelry The Nature's Jewelry

Decades ago, pearls were thought of as a rare and delicate, used only as an accessory for very special occasions, such as weddings or funerals. Today, pearls have been found in
many different colors and shapes, ranging in their opalescence and virility. In this generation, pearls are worn daily, in different designs, colors and shapes. Pearls are no longer
limited to being considered the finishing touch to a simple funeral dress or wedding gown.

Other colors of pearls have become more popular as researchers have found that the natural colors of pearls can be altered in the growing process by gradually changing the color of
the shell that houses the pearl. In current day jewelry, natural, freshwater pearls are now available in bold colors, such as cranberry, mauve, deep blue, iridescent purple, and bronze.

Pearls are fast becoming a popular form of accessorizing, and BePearls has keep up with the trends as what you need!

Because the person can wear it often, and think of you when they put it on. It is something that will get used instead of just sitting pretty somewhere.

If you can, you can casually try to bring it up in discussion to see if they would be interested, or you could ask someone that they are close to. This way you won't end up getting them a gift that they will not use.

Pearl Jewelry A Great Season Gift

Pearl jewelry is the most romantic gift you can give to your loved ones this holiday season. Pearls are true gems of the sea. Pearls natural lustrous shine has charmed all women from princesses to regular folks around the world. Pearl jewelry truly adds to sophistication and grace to feminine charm.

Unlike other gems like diamond or precious stones, which are cut, shaped and polished to bring brilliance, pearls come out of living organism and have natural lustrous appeal. Pearls are unique and known for their the natural beauty. Pearls are formed inside the body of oysters. The mollusk deposits layer of nacre, a combination of crystalline and organic substances, when any irritant or parasite enters or placed inside its body. Over a period of time with nacre building up in layers upon layers, the pearl is formed.

Ordinary person can't possibly comprehend the evaluation process of ascertaining the quality and price of diamonds; as cut, shape, size, color and design settings are very crucial. But for pearls, with little efforts and knowledge, one can easily figure out the quality and price variations and can decide accordingly.

The size, color, shape, surface and the type of pearl usually define the price in any kind of pearl jewelry. Most of the online pearl jewelry stores have Buyer's Guide or Pearl Education pages added to their websites to help their customers.

Most lustrous pearl gift sets are designed with freshwater pearls, which are very affordable. White color pearl jewelry gift set, the ultimate trio is very popular and classic but other exciting colors are equally very attractive.

First off, it is a lot expensive to buy jewelry online then it is in a store. If you think about it, a store has to worry about paying for the location, electricity, all of the employees to help you, etc. There are a lot of costs associated with having a retail location. When a store is only online, they have a lot less costs. Because of this, they can pass the savings down to you so you can get the same jewelry for less.

Another great thing about buying a jewelry gift online is that you have a lot more choices! A store can only have so many pieces of jewelry, so if you're looking for a specific stone, setting, or piece, they might only have a few choices. If you buy a jewelry gift online, you don't have to worry if the person doesn't like it. They can return the item, and can instead choose something else that they like. Many online jewelry stores also ship free overnight shipping, and the gift comes in a really pretty jewelry box. These are just a few other reasons you should look forward to buying your jewelry gift online.

There are many reasons to buy a jewelry gift online instead of at a retail location near you. If you go online to buy your gift of jewelry, you are sure to find something more special, save money, and make that special someone very happy!

Ladies Love Pearl Necklace

We all know almost all ladies love jewelry and it is perhaps their inner passion to wear gorgeous piece of jewelry. Among many other choices, pearl necklace is the preferred choice of many women because of its natural lustrous appeal.

When it comes to pearl necklace, usually it’s a white color pearl necklace. White color pearl necklaces are classic, traditional and generally designed with round shape pearls. Pearls come in other natural colors too, like gray, black, golden, light green etc. However, pearls can be colored-dyed, as per fashion demands, in lavender, pink, peach, gold, black and blue as well. But natural original color pearl necklaces are always preferred and command higher prices. A typical pearl necklace is hand knotted with about 40 pearl beads.

Pearl necklaces are not restricted to round shape pearls only and other shapes like tear drop, pear, potato, coin and irregular baroque shape pearls are equally popular among women and commonly used by jewelers and designers alike.

When it comes to pearl size the most popular sizes are between 6mm to 8.5mm. Small sizes are very common among younger girls and larger sizes are preferred choice of many women.

Besides pearls shape and size, the length of any pearl necklace is very important and paramount: normal pearl necklace length 18 inches or 45cm.

Fashion options. These can be doubled or knotted to suit one’s style. Some of the rope type pearl necklaces come with multiple clasps hence can be made into shorter strands. They can also be slung over the shoulder to give a sexy and stylish look and are back in high fashion again. Which is Pearl Rope - 37 inches or longer.

Blue Pearls

The Blackfoot Paua (Abalone: haliotis iris), one of eight mollusk variety found around the Pacific Rim, is indigenous to New Zealand coastal waters. The Paua's mother-of-pearl shell lining, of iridescent multi-hued nacre, is recognized and widely used to create inlay, art, adornment and jewelry. What is not well-known is that much like a pearl oyster; the Abalone produces natural pearls by coating irritants or parasites, which it is unable to remove/expel, with its nacre. Reflections of their shells, these “nacre-coated irritants” called Paua (Abalone) Pearls are colorful and most often, highly iridescent. These natural (blister) pearls, being either of mabe or shark’s tooth shape, are very rare, however.

Today, most of the Paua Blue Pearls are created by man in delicate harmony with nature and the mollusk. Culturing pearls in the Paua has been fraught with difficulties due its hemophiliac nature and its ability to quickly expel most irritants. However, these difficulties are being overcome with the use of a special process, somewhat similar to the process used with the pearl oyster, to produce unique, spectacular multi-colored mabe pearls.

The resulting pearls of 5 to 20mm in diameter are reflections of the Paua inner shells, with mirror finished or subtle reflected luster. The colors range from vibrant purple, magenta (purplish-red), greens and blues. With characteristics similar to that of a chameleon, the pearls' soft iridescent colors change from blue, purple, green to gold/yellow with splashes of silver-grey, red and pink with a mere hint of light -- the color combinations are infinite.

The New Zealand Paua Blue Pearls are graded using Gem, A or B grade point system – that has some similarities to the “Tahitian System” used to grade the South Sea Pearls, Tahitian Black Pearls and the Cook Island Black Pearls. Each Blue Pearl is graded based on its size, intensity of color; degree of luster and surface imperfection. Grading points are then allocated based on a maximum ratio point of 40% for color; 30% for luster and 30% for surface imperfections.

The Blue Pearls of magenta, greens and blues are considered the most desirable and are reflective as such in their pricing. Majority has brownish color that does not diminish or distract from the pearl’s beauty which comes from their unique shapes and colors. Paua Pearls are of 100% natural color – with no dyes, lacquers or any other enhancements, and are certified accordingly with Certificates of Authenticity. These Certificates are provided to retailers, for distribution to the purchasers by the Paua Blue Pearl Hatcheries from which they originated.

Pearl Jewelry The Nature's Jewelry

It is hard to believe that the rarity and the value of the pearl have been recognized for many centuries. The ancient Egyptians understood this value, therefore they used pearls in the making of their own jewelry. Perhaps the ancient Egyptians didn't understand the rarity of the pearl, but they obviously understood its beauty.

We all know that pearls are a natural occurrence via the oyster and although there are approximately 8,000 species of oysters, only about 20 of those species can produce a pearl. Yet not all of the pearls that are produced contain the required spherical shape, so this explains why pearls hold a very significant value and also explains why one strand of pearls can cost you hundreds of dollars.

But what about those strands of pearls that usually cost around $50? Those particular pearls are called 'cultured pearls.' These cultured pearls are synthetically produced and are the primary method of production of today's pearl jewelry. This method was actually discovered in the 1800's and involves the surgical implantation of a synthetic agent into an oyster that promotes pearl growth. Depending on the type of Oyster used it will determine the type of pearl produced, but, despite the type of pearl Oyster, that spherical shape that is desired by pearl lovers can be achieved via this method.

Even an experienced jeweler is going to have difficulty telling the difference between an authentic pearl and a cultured pearl. Chances are the jeweler will not know at all unless he can give the pearl an x-ray and you can rest assured that he is probably not going to have an x-ray machine in his store. Yet, if you're shopping for pearls, you can most likely tell the difference in the pearls based on their prices. The size of the pearl can make a difference, but if you compare a natural pearl and a cultured pearl of the same size, you are going to see a huge price variation.

So when shopping for pearls, you now know why some are affordable and some are not. If you want rare pearl jewelry, then perhaps you should seek out a natural pearl, but if you just want a pearl without the expense, maybe a cultured pearl is the way to go. Just think of it, that in a way, that no one will ever know the difference when looking at it and will believe your pearls to be as natural as you are.

Hot Styles of Pearl Necklace

Fashion in pearl jewelry industry changes very fast, over the last 6 months, the used-to-be-popular fancy style pearl necklaces were becoming less and less active, and is being replaced by another trend: pearl necklaces are becoming more slender, lighter, and more feminine.

Slender: a very slender chain combines with a mid- to big-sized pearl pendant is a common style it can find this year. It is slender, but it doesn't mean it is simple. In fact, designers must devote more effort to design such a slender but fascinating necklace.

It was impressed by this item: two rows of very thin platinum chains are connected by 5 diamond floret patterns, and a white south sea pearl with a platinum floret post pendant sits in the middle.

Light: traditional pearl strands sometimes give a heavy feeling. This year, a lot of them become so light, because they halve their weight, and call them "semi-pearl strands" or "semi-pearl chain".

The reason is that they are not traditionally strung by strings, but by thin metal chains in gold, silver, or platinum. In the whole necklace, pearls are not lined one by one, but each two pearls are separated by the metal chain. The pearls in the necklaces are all small-sized around 4mm. Now feel them, don't you think they are just perfect for the coming summer?

Feminine: this year for some reason, the pearl necklaces with floral or heart patterns always catch ladies eyes. Maybe that's just because they are in fashion, but some peoples are not a fashion addict.

In one of jewelry shop there is a very simple white gold chain decorated by three white 7mm pearls and three rose patterns. It was simple but so intriguing! A lady tried it on. The shop lady smiled to her and said, "It is a very feminine necklace. You look so tender and charming with it." Finally we found out why we like this style of necklace so much---because it is so feminine.

Which woman doesn't want to look feminine and charming? When you selecting a pearl necklace, will you focus on slender, light and feminine styles.

Choose The Right Pearl Jewelry

How to find the right pearl jewelry? Consider wearer's complexion, age, body shape and dress.

1. Skin complexion: Different pearl colors compliment different skin tones. Right choice of a pearl color can highlight the skin tone and give a lift in life.

White is the most popular color and suits the widest range of skin tones. Nevertheless,
Fair skins are well matched with white pearls.
Tanned and dark skin tones are harmonized with creamy and golden pearls.

2. Age: Age plays a distinct role in selecting the length of the necklace and the size of pearl. In general, young ladies look better with shorter necklace and smaller pearl; longer necklace with larger pearl look good on old ladies.

Simple, shorter necklace of smaller pearls show best on youthful necklines. Necklaces closer to the throat can show off smooth skin. Contrarily, flashier, bigger, and wider necklaces on young ladies do not enhance but detract.

Longer chains (18 - 24 inches in general) with larger pearl (>7 mm) on older women will help draw attention away from the neck and any other apparent imperfections.

3. Body shape: Customize your necklace style to your proportions.

If you have a long neck, a single or multi-strand collar (12-13 inches) or choker (14-16 inches) will accentuate your charm and grace.

If your neck is shorter, a longer strand such as a matinee (20-24 inches) or opera (28-34 inches) will "elongates" the neck, creating an overall harmonizing look.

4.Dress: Choose a pearl necklace of right length to complement the dress.

Shorter necklace such as pearl collar or choker is perfect for the off-the-shoulder grace of wedding gowns. They also complement evening gowns and "V" neck sweaters.

Longer necklace such as pearl princess (17-19 inches) is the most versatile necklace length. It is suited to everyday sports and business wear, providing a classic, timeless elegance to every kind of outfit.

Pearl Necklace Jewelry

Pearls will always be in vogue, whoever wears it and whatever the occasion. However, one can make it somewhat more chic and stylish by giving it a slightly modern twist. The floating pearl necklace is a sexy new style of pearl jewelry that gives the illusion of pearls suspended around your neck. In reality, the pearls are held by gold or clear synthetic cord.

This particular style of pearl jewelry is highly popular. Many online stores sell exquisitely delicate illusion pearl necklaces that appear to float at the neckline. One has an endless variety of designs and styles to choose from.

Illusion pearl necklaces are a great way to add style and flair to any jewelry collection. Some of the best designs are threaded on virtually-invisible fine acrylic strands and made of 4-5 mm round natural cultured fresh water pearls.

They can either be of the same color; or pearls of different colors and sizes may be stranded together to make a gorgeous illusion pearl necklace. One can go in for a single strand, two strands or a multi-strand necklace suiting her costume and the occasion. These types of trendy necklaces are relatively new and give the look of pearls floating in front of you!

Knotting is the ancient way pearl necklaces were made, and those were the original floating pearl necklaces. A knot is made after each pearl in the necklace. The size of the pearl can vary for a floating pearl necklace. The advantage of this technique is, if the thread breaks, only one pearl will fall off the necklace rather than the entire string of pearls.

Another method of making a floating pearl necklace is wrapping the acrylic thread around the pearls with the thread becoming part of the design of the jewelry. The pearls in a floating necklace can be linked together with thread, which gives freedom to choose different styles, colors and sizes of pearls, by mixing and matching.

Pearl weaving/stringing is done with thread or with wire and the different techniques of weaving will produce an entirely different look to the piece of jewelry created. Thus, floating necklaces can be made in a lot of creative styles, depending on one’s imagination. Floating pearl necklaces are attractive, feminine and very flattering. They are wonderful for weddings, and for dressing up simple elegant outfits. They are excellent as birthday or anniversary gifts. One can be a bit innovative and wrap her illusion pearl necklace around the wrist twice to make a stunning illusion pearl bracelet.

Floating pearl necklaces are trendy and stylish – you can choose from a host of styles, sizes and colors to dazzle the eye. Everything from tiny exquisite Akoya fresh water pearls to chunky pendant-size Tahitian pearls to coffee colored Keishi pearls.

Designing Your Own Jewelry

Many consumers are catching on to the notion that designing their own jewelry is not such a bad idea after all. There are varying reasons in which consumers may choose to create their own jewelry instead of purchasing it ready made. Some of these reasons include therapy, for sell, gifting, and to cut costs. Depending on the style of jewelry that a buyer is need of, the cost may not be as affordable as one may have expected. Casual, costume, personalized, and Swarovski bridal jewelry are just a few of the many styles of jewelry that can be created in the comforts of your home. Let’s explore the pros and cons of handmade jewelry.

Therapy In recent years, researchers have found that designing jewelry has therapeutic properties. This is a great exercise for someone that is looking for a leisure hobby. It is true that in many ways creating your own jewelry can be self-fulfilling and therapeutic, however, for a bride, designing her own Swarovski bridal jewelry may not agree with her time schedule. When it comes to wedding planning, time is of the essence, and the more that a bride can do to decrease her level of stress, the easier her trip down the wedding aisle will be.

For SellingFor those jewelry lovers that are looking for ways to make a little extra money, selling handmade jewelry will give them the best of both worlds. There is nothing more fulfilling than doing something that you enjoy and making money while doing it! When selling handmade jewelry, it is important to consider your competitors. Many consumers, brides in particular, are more apt to shop at a brick and mortar store or a more established online jewelry store. If you plan to sell handmade Swarovski bridal jewelry, then be aware that you have a lot of steep competition ahead of you.

GiftsThere is nothing more special than the thought behind a special gift. Making jewelry for your loved one is a wonderful gift idea for birthdays, Christmas, and weddings. A bride might consider designing her girlfriends wedding jewelry as a unique bridesmaids gift or she might solicit a dealer that specializes in handmade Swarovski bridal jewelry.

Cut CostsWhile there are hundreds of jewelry kits on the market, Swarovski crystals have proven to be among the few that are considered to be of high quality. Not only do everyday consumers enjoy wearing Swarovski jewelry, but also Swarovski bridal jewelry is a number one pick for many brides. Although cutting costs is important for many brides, cutting time is equally as important. In the wedding industry, many jewelry dealers offer discount prices on Swarovski wedding jewelry so that brides will not have to break their banks or spend unnecessary time hand making their own jewelry.

When investing your time and money into making your own jewelry, it is important to consider your motivation for creating your jewelry and whether or not it is cost and time-effective.

Pearl Be One Of The Beads for Your Accessories

Beads gives one a feeling of staying in tune with the times and also makes one look easy going and fun to be with. Did you know you could spice up your life with beads by putting them on your accessories? Yes, beads are equally good when you decorate your accessories with beads.

You can make them look hip and happening and when you carry these seed beads encrusted accessories, you can make heads turn. Now how can you use seed beads in accessories? How do you make a simple, ordinary sling bag turn cool and fun to carry along.

Well, very easy – you can convert a plane Jane bag into a highly fashionable one with seed beads. You can string the beads in a wire or thread and knot the string in such a way so as the beads do not come out and fall. And then you can tie this small set of beads to your bag so that one end hangs loose in the air. This way you can make lots of sets and tie them to the bag to give it both an ethnic yet chic look.

Or you can sew the beads on your bag with the help of a thread and needle. However make sure you are not causing any damage to the bag. You can try sewing beads on a cloth bag. With leather bags, be careful and sew only when you are completely sure. You can sew the beads in a design or pattern, or you can simply put a line around the bag and enhance its appearance. You can sew or add seed beads to an old bag and make it look new and trendy.

Hence, seed beads make great pieces of jewellery and trinkets. And they also make accessories look great. They add the 'cool' factor to it and therefore makes them look quite trendy.

About Diamonds And Pearls

Two of the most sought after jewels of all time would have to be the diamond and the pearl. Miners mine for diamonds, divers dive for pearls, and thieves have long loved to steal them both. Their values can range from minor to astronomical.

Their quality can range from not so good to exquisite. They both have been made into jewelry pieces that have become renowned for their classic timeless style. A solitaire diamond on a tiny gold chain and the ever elegant strand of pearls has become a necessary staple in any woman's jewelry box.

Unless you happen to have a lot of money, in times past smaller diamonds and pearls have been more common for most of us to wear because they were more affordable. Cubic zirconias and Moissanite diamonds have become very popular in recent years.

The quality of synthetic diamonds have so improved that in some cases even expert jewelers have had problems telling the difference. Now it is possible to wear a great looking larger diamond if you do not mind the fact that it is in reality only an imitation one.

The pearl has recently made a triumphant resurgence due to the cultured pearl. They are cultivated in an assembly line type process in large water beds. The small seed is implanted in the mussels shell and it begins to spin its milky web.

As with the natural process, this results in a pearl. The procedure is manipulated by man, but the end product is just as appealing as the real thing, and as with the cubic zirconia diamond, they can be now be bought in a wide variety if sizes, shapes, and colors.

Whether the diamond or pearl is the real thing or not, when you combine the two together in a piece of jewelry you are assured to obtain a show stopping result. For many years people have combined the two, possibly because of the allure each of them presents individually, so having them together in one piece of jewelry could only be even better. For some reason they compliment each other in a way that no other combination of jewels do.

Being able to wear great looking imitation diamond and pearl pieces of jewelry is a good thing for those of us who have a problem affording the real items. But for those of us who can afford the real ones, nothing gives as much satisfaction as knowing they are real.

Jewelry Secrets

Women love to look good, and an important part of style is choosing the right accessories. Not only that, but the way that you wear them will also have an impact on your entire appearance. If you want to get the most out of your jewelry collection, take note of the following jewelry secrets that are sure to please:

Teardrop earrings are flattering to every face shape. Whether you have a round, oval or other face shape, the design of a teardrop will be a nice compliment. It can often be difficult to find a style that fits the shape of a face perfectly, but a teardrop design is a smart pick every time.

Elongated rings can make your fingers look longer. If you have shorter fingers or simply want to give the illusion of an elongated hand, you can achieve the look simply by the ring that you choose to wear. A ring that’s longer (from knuckle to knuckle) than it is wide (from side to side) will make your fingers appear as though they have lengthened in an instant. Many women desire the look of a graceful hand, and it’s easy to achieve with this single effort.

You can shorten the length of a rolo necklace simply by hooking the clasp into another link in the design. If you currently own an 18", 20" or longer rolo necklace, you can instantly turn it into a 16" or 17" simply by placing the clasp in a different link. Instead of clasping your necklace into the standard clasp, it’s easy to adjust it by changing where you fasten the spring-ring or lobster claw.

Most gemstones can be cleaned with soap and warm water. Unless they are treated with oils, such as emerald, cleaning with warm soapy water is the perfect way to care for your gemstones. If you want to give your sterling silver a quick boost, simply use a jewelry polishing cloth for an instant shine.

Consider the thickness of a jewelry item when choosing a size. If a ring or bracelet has a hefty gram weight or is especially wide, consider moving up one size to allow for comfort. Heavier links may result in a closer fit, which makes going up to the next largest size a good idea in some cases.

You can easily convert a pin with a vertical pin-back into a pendant by simply threading your necklace through the closed pin-back. If you’re looking for other ways to wear your pin, consider adding it to the shoulder of your favorite sweater, the front of your purse or at the base of the strap or even on your favorite hat.

One Common Passion for Jewelry

Seasons change. Fashion changes. So does the styles and accessories. But one thing has always remain constant – our love for jewelry. Come fall, come spring, the styles and trends of jewelry may have changed. Various elements or materials have ruled different times and different seasons; some have successfully made a comeback like Pearl Jewelry, gemstone jewelry, and some have always been around like gold, silver and beads. Sometimes, the trend is brought on by new inventions, and sometimes the credit goes to the various fashion designers around the world.

Jewelry has never been restricted to one gender. Both genders have equally loved wearing jewelry right from the start of human evolution. With time, this love for jewelry has evolved along with human development and evolution of jewelry. Today, we have men donning and flaunting neck chains, rings and bracelets. Men flaunt different kinds of bracelets and pendants that best express them or their mood.

Jewelry has never been restricted to any particular strata of the society or any particular clan or tribe. Everyone loves wearing jewelry and everyone has their own set of trinkets for different kinds of occasion. Even the tribal communities have their own kind of jewelry, which are most of the times made by themselves and, therefore, are closer to nature. On second thought, some people, though they belong to different strata of the social hierarchy, prefer tribal jewelry as these ornaments have a very ethnic touch.

Apart from tribal jewelry, people prefer jewelry of other materials such as beads, pearls, gold, crystal, silver, platinum etc. The list is endless. In fact, it is not what material the jewelry is made of; rather, it is about what goes best with your personality, the surroundings you are in, your social status and the occasion you are part of.

How To Choose A Good Grade Pearl

Pearl, The ancient Chinese mythology believed that pearls grew by absorbing the power of moonlight.

A perfectly round pearl is the most valuable and most sought-after treasure of human beings. Nowadays, most pearl jewellery are made from Tahitian pearls, South Sea pearls, Akoya pearls or freshwater pearls. In general, the South Sea pearl is most precious while the freshwater pearl is comparatively less expensive.

Pearls cultivated in different origins have distinctive characteristics. The South Sea pearl is a noble pearl and tends to have a very strong and healthy nacreous coating. Generally, they are large in size with over 10mm in diameter. Pearls with a golden champagne or light yellowish hue are mainly from this type.

Tahitian nature coloured black pearls are particularly famous and popular. However, there are in fact Tahitian pearls in other colours including aubergine, blue, pink, silvery grey, gold, purple and green.

In 1916, the Japanese developed the cultivation of pearls with the aid of scientific and technical means. The Akoya pearl was thus born. While they are often round or near round in shape, they also tend to be smaller in size with diameters ranging from 2mm to 9mm.

China is the main cultivator of freshwater pearls. The colour range of freshwater pearls is extremely wide, but the price is relatively low. The reason is quite obvious as the volume produced in China is too large for the market to absorb.

Below outlines a set of basic guidelines on the characteristics of pearls:

Size: The size of round pearl is measured by its diameter, while pearls of other shapes are measured by its shortest width. Large pearls are comparatively rare and the price is therefore, higher.

Shape: Owing to the distinctive excretion of pearl oysters, pearls are harvested in different shapes, such as round, pear shape, tear shape, oval and irregular shape. Perfectly spherical pearls are extremely rare and thus comparatively expensive.

Lustre: Lustre is the reflection of light on the pearl's surface. It is also the surface brilliancy and the best expression of a pearl's beauty.

Blemish: The degree of blemishes lowers the value of the pearl. Blemishes may include cracks, prominent flaws, patches of missing nacre and obvious discolorations.

Shopping For Pearl Jewelry

Modern day pearl jewelry offers women of all ages many more options when accessorizing clothing to give the right look and feel. Pearls are no longer worn just on special occasions, but rather on a daily basis to accentuate that classy, elegant, professional, sexy and fun side of a woman. More choice in color, size, and shape among pearls is usually a good thing. However, buying pearl jewelry for yourself or a loved one can be confusing unless you have been provided with a few essential “pearls of wisdom”.

On recent pearl necklace shopping expeditions that included national retail jewelry stores, on-line stores, and local jewelry shops, the very challenging experiences that consumers face when buying pearl jewelry was revealed firsthand.

In 60% to 70% of the jewelry stores visited, the sales associates:
- either were not able to explain the pearl quality grading system, and/or
- did not have a quality grade associated with their pearls, and/or
- were not educated about pearls, and/or
- were misinformed regarding very high quality cultured freshwater pearls.

Unfortunately for the consumer, the average jewelry store personnel lacks pearl jewelry certification and product expertise. Furthermore, a large majority of jewelry stores or jewelry departments did not offer very high quality cultured freshwater pearls (AAA), either because they did not know they exist or they choose not to offer them. Much more expensive Akoya saltwater pearls were offered as the best alternative to high quality freshwater pearls.

Consumers need to know that very high quality freshwater pearl jewelry exists, is quite comparable to Akoya pearls, and is much more affordable.

The overall message here for consumers is to be sure to learn the basics about pearls from a reputable and knowledgeable dealer prior to shopping. In particular, seek out firms whose employees have pearl jewelry GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certification. It is critical that a consumer be properly educated when purchasing pearl jewelry, not only so they understand clearly what they are buying, but also so that they receive the best value for their money.

In summary, when you are shopping for pearl jewelry, remember to:
1) first educate yourself so that you know what you are buying,
2) have the seller demonstrate their knowledge and product offering to you, and
3) seek out high quality freshwater pearl jewelry as a very comparable and more affordable alternative to saltwater pearl jewelry.

These few tips on buying pearl jewelry can make your shopping experience much more pleasurable and rewarding. Today, high quality affordable pearl jewelry is available to consumers armed with the right information.

Pendants Express The Power

A pendant is many things, emotions and qualities encapsulated in one piece of ornament. It has always been one of the essential pieces of jewelry, worn from the days of caveman. Both men and women have adored and adorned a pendant which many a time meant anything or everything to them. Sometimes it is faith – in the shape of God or any religious symbol. Sometimes a pendant defines the persona or any particular personality trait. And sometimes a pendant is a symbol of love, one that remains close to the heart.

A pendant, more often than not, symbolizes something for the one wearing it. Sometimes it is the kind of mood or situation the person is in. For instance, when in a professional environment, you can put a pearl necklace with a big pearl pendant or something that looks sedate yet earnest. Sometimes it is a figment of one’s thoughts, tastes and preferences. Like when you go out with friends, you can express your artistic self with an ethnic pendant.

Pendant is also a wonderful symbol of love. It can be some hobby you follow passionately, for instance a guitar if you love music, a basketball or a golf club if you have a penchant for sports, or it can be your own name woven into a thread along your neck. It can also be the picture or name of someone whom you love. This is the best way you can express your emotions for someone, with a help of a pendant.

Apart from self expression, Pendant also make wonderful gifts. It is a very romantic way a husband surprises his wife. Besides, you can also gift beautiful pendants to your best friend on her birthday. A pendant will be the most cherished gift on Mother’s Day. Just one small piece of jewelry and you can imagine the power it holds and spreads all around the one wearing it.

Tips Of Buying Gemstones

Gemstones have been sought after and treasured throughout history. They have been found in ruins dating several thousand years. They are valued as gifts symbolizing love. Generally, the price of any gemstone is determined by: size, cut, quality (color/clarity/treatments), and type. Here are some questions to ask about quality:

Has it been treated?
Is the stone natural or synthetic?
Are there any noticeable scratches, chips or inclusions?
Is the color even throughout the stone?
How good is the color? (Is it vivid?)
If you are buying the stones for earrings or cufflinks, are the stones well matched?

There are many ways that dealers treat gemstones. The savvy buyer asks lots of questions and hopefully tests the results. Here are some treatments to look for:

Irradiation: It is common to irradiate Aquamarine, London Blue Topaz, Emerald, and Diamond as well as other stones. This treatment brings out color and removes imperfections. Many dealers know if the stones they are selling have been irradiated. Honest ones will tell you if they are aware of the treatment.

Heat Treatment: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Ruby, Tanzanite and Topaz are often heated at high temperatures to enhance color.

Dye: This is the most common treatment used. On clear stones, dye may be visible in cracks that are darker than the rest of the stone. Sometimes dye appears as a residue that rubs off or white patches. Lapis and Rose Quartz are commonly dyed. Amethyst and Citrine are often dyed. Black Onyx is permanently dyed in normal processing.

Coatings: Jasper is often dipped in petroleum products to bring out color and to seal it. Emerald is oiled; turquoise is waxed.

Fake stones: Some dealers will try passing off fake stones instead of natural ones. There are fake stones for most gemstones on the market. Always ask what stone something is if you are not certain. Honest dealers will tell you. If a stone looks too perfect it may be fake, irradiated or dyed. I avoid Laboratory made products are known as synthetics.

Tips on buying beads:

Good sized holes (so can use a stronger thread)
Evenly shaped beads (as appropriate)
If the beads are being sold in a 16" strand -- I make sure it is 16" -- not 14" or 15" if possible.
Look for the best quality stone (if buying real stones)
Make sure beads are not cracked or chipped by the holes as this tears the thread
Good color (so can create harmonious necklaces and matching earrings)

Why Freshwater Pearl Jewelry Makes Great Gift Ideas

Pearl jewelry has made beautiful presents for centuries and it is only in the last 50 years that they have become more accessible for most of us. Pearls have and always will capture the attention and love of women. For this very reason pearl jewelry makes great presents. So you still need more reasons for getting all those bonus points for giving some stunning pearl jewelry, here they are:

1. Pearl earrings and necklaces make ideal gifts because they are timeless in their elegance. My mum gave me a pair of freshwater pearl stud earrings when I was started to work around sweet seventeen years old. I still have them and wear them. They are a simple and timeless style and always make me think of her when I wear them.

2. Pearl jewelry can be worn for most any occasion from formal to work to casual.

3. The variety of styles now available in pearl jewelry lets each of us showcase our individual styles and taste.

4. Pearl jewelry is a beautiful symbol of love, fidelity and trust; one of the reasons it makes ideal wedding jewelry and anniversary presents.

5. You feel very special being given pearl jewelry; it is something your girlfriends go ooh ahh about, no matter who gives you the jewelry.

6. It is one of the most memorable presents because pearl jewelry is timeless and lasts for years. Women love having pieces that have passed through the family and the stories behind them.

7. Pearl jewelry makes ideal gifts to mark the progression through significant moments in life, ranging from moving from girlhood into womanhood, graduations, personal achievements, significant birthdays, weddings and anniversaries as well as special events.

Pearls earrings should always be set in silver or gold and you should only get the real thing - cultured freshwater or sea water pearls only. Pearl jewelry gifts should only be real pearls unless a specific faux pearl design is particularly requested.

The size of the genuine pearls does not matter. The pearls my mum gave me are small and I adore them because of who gave them to me for my 18th birthday. What matters is the giving of the pearls not how fancy they are because pearls range from the affordable to the blindingly expensive.

Making Your Own Pearl Jewelry

With fashions returning to encompass suits and dressier jackets pearls are also making a comeback in fashion. While pearl jewelry making may not look all that complicated there are a few tricks to know to make it better. With the expense of pearls there really is no easy way to use them in jewelry and still have a quality piece of jewelry.

Necklaces and bracelets are probably the most sought after pieces of jewelry and pearl jewelry making will test your patience as you string the beads. You choice is always whether to tie a knot between each bead or not, but there are two good reasons to do so.

First, having a knot between each one prevents them from hitting together and getting scratched or broken. The second reason is that if the string breaks you will usually only lose one pearl instead of them all.

How many pearls you will have to string for a necklace will depend on the size of the pearls and size of the necklace to are making. A 16-inch necklace will be typical with the length extending to 18 inches once the clasps have been added.

The number of pearls needed will be determined by their size. Most of those into pearl jewelry making will use one size of pearl, usually about six millimeter, but there are others who use larger, or smaller ones.

Traveling Jewelry Box

Traveling with jewelry can be a real trial for women. Often times the only choice a woman has is to wear her jewelry the entire time she's on the trip or to find it a hopelessly tangled mess at the bottom of her carry-on bag. Besides the general inconvenience, traveling can also make it easier for jewelry to become damaged in the hustle and bustle of getting around.

That's why a travel jewelry case can make all the difference in the world. They come in a range of sizes, from the size of a small laptop to the size of an eyeglass case. They also come in a variety of materials, including leather, faux leather, and fabric.

Choosing A Travel Jewelry Box

Traveling with wooden jewelry boxes can be bulky and may be susceptible to breakage, should a less-than-careful baggage handler get his hands on your luggage. Portable, non-wooden jewelry boxes, on the other hand, provide convenience as well as security.

Your treasured valuables have a safe storage place, which can cut down on incidents of loss. No one wants to walk through the door at home and realize that their necklace is still on the nightstand back at the resort hotel.

Leather Travel Jewelry Cases

Leather jewelry cases are the most popular choice for storing jewelry on the road. They offer excellent protection for necklaces, rings, and other keepsakes but they are far less likely to be damaged. Most women opt for a traditional brown or black leather jewelry case.

However, a variety of colors are available including red, blue or even orange. Cases like these often are velvet or suede lined to provide a plush cushion for your valuables. They are perfect for watches, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

Freshwater Pearl Jewelry Are Special

Ever wonder what made pearl jewelry so special? What the difference was between real and fake pearls? Why does it cost a lot for real pearl jewelry? I will try to give you a brief explanation in the following paragraphs.

First off pearls come from oysters commonly found in the ocean. The oyster lays layers of different chemical compounds to form the precious stone. The compound is calcium carbonate and conchiolin which combined together makes mother-of-pearl.

Most pearls are white but can be tinted with a vast array of colors to give them a unique and colorful look. Some of the more common colors are blue, yellow, brown, green and purple along with a few others. The rarest of colors is black. Black pearls are much harder to come by due to manufacturing processes. The process that black pearls are subject too has a small percentage rate that actually makes it through the process, due to rejecting the nucleus.

Most people believe that pearls only come from saltwater but that is not true. There are two types of pearls; saltwater and freshwater pearls. The majority of pearls come from the ocean in protected lagoons across the world. There are pearls that come from freshwater mussels that live in rivers, lakes and ponds.

The bulk of freshwater pearls today mainly come from China and a few other remote regions.
If you are wondering how to tell a real pearl from a fake pearl apart it is quite simple. The simplest of methods is running your teeth along the pearl; if it is smooth it is more than likely fake. If it has a unique roughness to it that makes your teeth grit it is more than likely real. If you attempting to decipher natural pearls from cultured pearls you will more than likely require a specialist with advanced machinery.

When searching for pearl jewelry buying fake pearl is probably your best bet. It looks usually about the same and costs a lot less! There are many sites on the internet that specialize in pearl jewelry in a vast array of colors, just keep your eyes open. Find the right pearl for you!
