Jewelry is a Fashion Necessity

Designer fashion jewelry is no longer just a trend. It just definitely become one of the hottest and most desired elements of fashion for women. There is a problem with popularity though. When designer jewelry becomes really popular, and it is somewhat costly, that is when the jewelry and designs start to become developed by these knock off companies.

It is important to pay attention to detail and quality and reputable companies if you want to purchase the designer fashion jewelry. The knock off companies are often using less valuable materials and may not have the same level of workmanship.

Stores and retailers that sell designer fashion jewelry will have a well established reputation and therefore the consumer will know that they can be trusted. For instance, if looking for a piece of Monet, then you will want to shop with a place like Dillard's or Kohl's, or perhaps another local department store.

It is less likely that these well known department stores will be selling knock off materials. These stores run on good service and quality merchandise. It is also recommended that when purchasing designer jewelry that the item is inspected for the correct designer label. If there is no label, then it is probably not from the designer you are wishing to purchase.

It is a good idea to shop at the local jeweler or bead crafter's shop. These small shops are less likely to use imitation products because they are a small business and are trying to develop into something larger or they have a steady clientele and need to keep that client base. It is recommended that perhaps you shy away from discount retailers and stores. This is because they often do not have any accountability for their products. It would be quite a shame to purchase a piece of jewelry that you thought was glass beads and it turned out to be coasted plastic.

Then there is of course online shopping. For those who like to shop in the convenience of their own home, it is important to make sure that the website is reputable. There are some questionable salespeople that do sneak through though, so still be careful. Designer fashion jewelry is a great way to enjoy accessorizing and personalizing your wardrobe, but make sure that you are spending money on items that are what they claim to be, the original.

Gemstones on the Internet

Lots of retailers sell jewelry, but you don't often see the sign "Colored Gemstones For Sale." That's because the loose gemstone business is a rather specialized one. Most of the people who buy loose gemstones are either gems dealers themselves or jewelry designers.

There aren't enough gemstone collectors or aficionados in most places to justify a gemstone store at your local shopping mall. There are actually a large number of gemstone buyers, but they are distributed all over the world.

So successful gemstone dealers have learned to reach the market via the internet. Recently we've seen attempts to use television shopping channels as well to reach consumers, but it is too soon to say if any companies can survive doing that, given the very high marketing costs.

One of the challenges of the colored gemstone trade is that gems are mined and cut and polished in far flung regions of the world. So if you want to be a gemstone dealer, North America or Europe is not the best place to be. Indeed, American buyers have to wait for the annual Tucson gem show for dealers from all over the world to bring their goods to the USA.

The main cutting centers for colored gemstones are in Thailand and India. Since Thailand has better infrastructure, it has some advantages as a trading and manufacturing center. Thailand has the the good luck to be located next to Burma, the source of some of the finest ruby, sapphire and spinel; and next to Cambodia, the source of some of the finest zircon.

Thailand has also become an important trading center for African gems such as tourmaline, tsavorite garnet, tanzanite and spessartite garnet.

You'll find many colored gemstone dealers online, but finding a reliable one is not always easy. If you'd like to learn more about gemstones for sale online see our article on What to Look For in an Online Gem Dealer.

GemSelect is one of the leading online dealers in sapphire, ruby, tourmaline, spinel and garnet.

Hot Trends For Spring

With Spring just around the corner, color gemstones in all their magnificent hues are resurfacing. The raw, natural and tribal look is the rage this Season with floral and leaf motifs in ring designs, pendants and earrings. Multicolor bracelets and an abundance of bangles are also in. Young women are showing a great interest in the more bold and rough finish yellow gold necklaces, while older women are looking for unique cuts and classic styles.

Trend-wise, it seems bigger is always better, this trend was visibly apparent among celebrities since last Fall and still continuing, with the addition of the color splashes. The price of gold has been reaching incredible heights, investing in yellow gold pieces is smart, if you can afford it.

However, many designers have branched out into Sterling Silver given the economic climate. While gold, forever the symbol of wealth, is the preferred metal for any precious stone, we're seeing beautiful designs with silver and color gemstones stealing the spotlight.

Today's style-conscious customers have many options, women are asking for stand-out pieces, and larger colored stones, among the favorites are the Quartz family and on the more expensive scale, are the Tourmalines, Beryls, Sapphires and Tanzanites. So what's hot in jewelry these days?

According to our own in-store experience at Jewels Quest, we're seeing a definite interest either in large color stones or large gold pieces with smaller pave accent shades of diamonds, brilliant diamonds, champagne diamonds, chocolate diamonds...

It shouldn't come as a surprise to finish this brief look into the jewelry trends with diamonds, they will, after all, always be a girl's best friend.

How to Choose Women's Bracelets

Jewelry is an excellent gift for women of all ages. If you plan to impress the woman in your life with a stylish piece of jewelry, a bracelet is the answer to your search. You can show her how much you love and appreciate her presence in your life with a special gift like this one. If you want to buy you lady a gift she will always treasure, read on.

Before you set out to purchase this, you must have a budget in mind. It is important to stick to a proper budget while scouting for that perfect piece. When you have decided a price band you can browse the varieties that might be available in that range. If you are looking for charm bracelets you will have to check if your lady has one already. In that case it would make more sense to buy her a charm rather than buying a whole new bracelet.

The pricey varieties have semi-precious stones and diamonds. You should also check out the varieties of metal in which the bracelet is available. Sterling silver and 14 carat gold bracelets are usually at the lower end in terms of price tag. Costlier varieties include 22 carat gold and platinum ones.

You should also have a estimate of her wrist size with you as a loose fit might make the bracelet come off easily. In any case you must confirm with the jeweler if you can come back for an exchange or for refitting later on.

For all varieties, it is important to check the warranty certificates and clear out any doubts you have before making the purchase. For those of you who prefer to make purchases online, this is a very important aspect. Try and find out local branches of jewelers who can undertake repairs if anything are amiss.

How to Choose the Perfect Necklace

A necklace is a very versatile piece of jewelry. You can team it with a evening gown for a formal occasion or just wear one with a plain dress to the boardroom. The perfect necklace is one you can carry off confidently and comfortably. If you plan to accessorize your wardrobe with a necklace, here are a few tips for you.

First of all you must keep in mind the occasion for which you want to wear the necklace. The choice varies for daytime and night. One can stick to basic, simple pieces for day wear. Night time is usually perfect to bring out the beauty of a luxurious item.

The collar of the dress makes all the difference to the item you are wearing. If you wear a V neck, complement it with a simple string of pearls. You can also highlight the piece with a stunning pendant. You may also experiment with wider necks that show off the collar bones.

If you plan to buy a piece with colored stones on it, you must remember to coordinate it with the rest of your collection.

If you have a daring strapless evening gown, nothing sits more perfectly than a short necklace at the base of your neck. Pearls are some of the most versatile pieces for such occasions and you can buy one that has similar sized pieces strung to make a beautiful choker.

If you opt to wear a blouse instead, you will have to team it with something that is more eye catching. A thick chain would be the answer in this case and would go well with a business suit. If you favor turtlenecks, you can team it with a long string of pearls. Crystals are another classy option for women and tend to add sophistication to your nightwear.

Spring Fashion Trends - Colors Rule

Blues and lavenders continue to be popular colors that carry over from the Fall Fashion Collections. In addition to these you will find yellows and greens, especially bright greens like those found in jade. Of course, neutrals and reds are always popular.

However, change is in the air. Jewelry is influenced by the global and exotic and will be the one new fashion piece you want for the spring. You will see larger pieces this year, especially those with larger gemstones. This will be the best way to update your wardrobe.

Necklaces will be big and bold with rich colors. You'll also see large chunky bracelets that will stand out. And look for exotic and ethnic inspired pieces with an Asian influence. Jewelry isn't just about style anymore, designs containing symbolism and special meaning are becoming more and more popular. These "personalized" items are considered more valuable, as they are more tailor-made for the individual.

Don't be afraid to wear the one-of-a-kind piece that will set you off from the crowd. The bigger and more unusual piece the better. Why? These pieces can be worn in the evening with a gown or a simple black dress, and during the day to dress up a pair of jeans. You can even wear these exotic pieces with prints. This versatility in a piece of jewelry allows you to buy less and enjoy it more.

In addition, unusual pieces of jewelry add drama and visual interest to your clothes and will make a simple outfit stand out. Imagine - adding new items to your wardrobe that you don't even have to wash!

The History of Charms Fashion

Although charms have fascinated humans for thousands of years, the interest and motivation for carrying them has changed greatly over time.

It's a fair assumption that the charm bracelet's roots can be found in ancient amulets and talismans. These were objects carried by ancient Chinese, Africans, Egyptians, and many more early cultures. Usually made from stones or bones, amulets were worn to provide good fortune and protection to the wearer.

These items were also worn as a kind of 'dog tag' indicating religious faith. The belief, in essence, was that the deceased wearer would be escorted to the appropriate afterlife. This use of charms extended into the Roman era, when Christians and Jews would wear items to indicate their corresponding faith as an act of piety.

Charms reappeared in the Middle Ages on the necks and belts of knights and warriors. They hoped that the donning of the charm, along with prayer and incantation, would bring the support of God to their battles.

Not surprisingly, this caused charms to lose favor during the Renaissance. These supposedly enlightened times saw the charm as a symbol of fear and superstition. It was not until Queen Victoria introduced a more modern use of the charm that they began to emerge as fashionable items for women.

Charms are now used to mark milestones in a woman's life including her 16th birthday and her marriage. The bracelet of charms is often passed down from mother to daughter as a family heirloom.

This is the use of the charm that we love and encourage: one that represents your own personal journey through life. With time, your charm bracelet can grow and record your experience. And in a very real way, your time on earth can be passed down to your loved ones.

Tips For Pearl Jewelry Care

Your pearl jewelry does require some additional care. Three to four times a year, you should take your pearl jewelry one piece at a time, place it in warm water, and dish soap for about 15 to 20 minutes without scrubbing. After the 15 to 20 minutes elapse you will rinse the pearls well with clear water until the soap has been completely washed away. You can tell when the soap is washed away because your jewelry will stop bubbling!

After this you will want to place your pearls on a towel and allow for them to air dry for 24hours. You need not put them in the sun; in fact you should avoid placing your pearls in the sun at all, just allow drying at room temperature. When your pearl jewelry is completely dry you should replace it in your jewelry box, keeping them separate from other pieces of jewelry to avoid scratches.

In addition to washing your pearl jewelry every few months you will want to care for them additionally every two to three years. To preserve the luster of your pearl jewelry you should gently rub them down with a small amount of olive oil every two to three years. This seems like an odd combination, but this simple technique is known to keep pearl jewelry looking great for a lifetime!

As you can see, caring for your peal jewelry is not at all difficult; you just need to take some simple steps to make sure that they are as beautiful after being worn as they were the day that you purchased them. Many people assume that pearls are tough and nothing can take away from their natural beauty, but this is not at all the case and your pearl jewelry should be handled with care.

The Best Care of Pearls Or Pearl Jewelry

It is a good idea to take off your pearl jewelry before you take a shower, bath, or even before you go swimming. There are often chemicals or additives in water, even bath water, that can build up on the surface of your pearl and take away from its color and sheen. Many believe that since the pearls came from the sea they will be fine in water, but this is not necessarily true.

Pearl jewelry should be the last thing that you put on when you are getting dressed. Make up, soap, and lotion can all damage your pearls and many of them even have whitening substances in them that will take away from the luster and color of your pearl. It is a good idea to put your pearl jewelry on when you are completely dressed, your make up is done, and your hair is finished.

One time when you should avoid wearing your pearl jewelry is when you are cleaning the house or using any sort of cleaners or detergents. We never think that we are going to get these substances on us, but if pearls come in contact with these substances it could prove devastating. It is better to be safe than sorry with your pearl jewelry, as it is an investment, and one that is worth preserving.

When you have been wearing your pearl jewelry you should take it off and then gently wipe it down. You will want to wipe the jewelry down with a soft cloth that has been moistened with alcohol. The alcohol will safely remove any dust, sweat, or dirt. These are all things that can build up on your jewelry and take away from its natural beauty. This process takes just moments and is easy!

When your pearl jewelry is completely dry you should replace it in your jewelry box, keeping them separate from other pieces of jewelry to avoid scratches.

Creating a celebrity inspired look that you feel comfortable with is a fun way to explore trendy fashion jewelry. A great place to start looking for inspiration is on television. Watch programs that have actresses that have a look that you are sincerely drawn to. Use your TiVO or VCR to record one program. Pause the frame that has a look in it that you love.

Carefully study the images. First take note of the materials. What are the pieces made of? It could be a simple necklace with an open heart. Take note of every detail of the jewelry.

Pearls is Precious or Semi-Precious Stones

For many years now, semi-precious and precious stones have always been used by men and women alike. Similar to the modern-age jewelry that a lot of people wear today, the most dominant features of pieces are usually beautiful, attractive and colorful stones that are used as metallic embellishments and ornamentation.

These stones that are used for the crafting of various fine jewelry are basically divided into two types: the semi-precious stones and the precious stones.

These are heavily used in the jewelry market as variety and value is set and considered. Now although artistic merits are generally subjective, the values of these two types of stones would be dependent on their quality and rarity.

A lot of people who are in the market for jewelry that have these kinds of stones such as general consumer and collectors usually would prefer the rare stone to the beautiful one.

These semi-precious and precious stones are essentially rocks or minerals that have been taken from under the earth and then enhanced by the artisans through the process of cutting and polishing. The finest and the rarest of these stones and minerals are what turn out to be gems or semi-precious and precious stones.

For the precious stones, the most valuable would be the emeralds, rubies, sapphires and of course, diamonds. Pearls are also sometimes considered as precious stones. However, they are not actually stones but are still known for its beauty, elegance and value.

The most valuable semi-precious stones would be the amethyst, turquoise, lapis-lazuli, aquamarine, topaz, peridot, moonstone, tourmaline, opal, zircon, chrysoberyl and alexandrite.

Some other semi-precious stones that are not as valuable, though valuable still would include jade, garnet, chrysoprase, agate, azurite, bloodstone, coral, malachite, carnelian and a lot others.
